FALSE CHRISTS 28

Years ago, when living in Colorado, I remember driving home one afternoon in a snowstorm. It had just begun snowing some thirty or so minutes earlier. There had accumulated maybe a quarter-inch of snow on the road and it was becoming more and more difficult to negotiate by the minute. I was almost home and was driving up a hill, on a street that led to the apartment complex in which we were living. The hill was somewhat steep, so the tires began to break traction, started spinning and I needed to keep my momentum to make it up the hill.

About that time I noticed a couple of young boys, maybe five or six years old, who had their bicycles out in the snow. They had excitement on their faces as they were attempting to ride their bicycles in the snow. Doing what little boys will do. Nothing wrong with that. But there was one slight problem in that the boys were on one side of the street and were attempting to cross to the other side. And, this is the same street that I am trying to “spin and slide” my way up.

It was a worst case combination of factors. I, the driver, wanted desperately to keep my momentum, knowing that if I stop, it will be very difficult to restart on the hill. Also, at the same time, knowing that if I had to stop quickly, I could not do it in the newly fallen snow – even going uphill.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS NOT A FURNACE THAT CAN BE CONTROLLED WITH A THERMOSTAT 9

Praying in the Spirit

Praying in the Spirit

The Holy Spirit is as much a part of God as Jesus is a part of God. The Holy Spirit is as much a part of the Trinity of God as Jesus is a part of the Trinity of God. The Holy Spirit is all-powerful and, according to Jesus, the Holy Spirit will enable the church to accomplish greater works on the Earth than Jesus did. The Holy Spirit has always been God and will always be God.

There are those in ministry today who think they have the luxury to ignore, avoid and even disavow the Holy Spirit. There are those in ministry who think the Holy Spirit is no longer active in the church today. They believe that somehow man has been left to his own devices to “make things work” and to solve his problems by his own ability. Some Pastors no longer preach on the supernatural. They preach that man is a God unto himself and that the power to change man’s life and make good things happen in this world are “locked up” in the sub-consciousness of man. In other words, man is his own savior.

You have preachers today who are saying on national TV that it is not their responsibility to interpret what the Bible says. Many ministers are buying into and adopting an ecumenical approach to their preaching. It goes something like this “Hey, if that’s what they were taught and if that’s what they believe, then as long as they are sincere in their belief, who am I to tell them anything different”. These same ministers are asked if they believe that Jesus is the only way to get to Heaven. They answer by saying “For me, Jesus is the only way to get to Heaven”. Notice the “For me” part of the answer. It is somewhat subtle but very real in meaning and substance. What this minister is saying in his answer is, “For me, (as I have been taught), Jesus in the only way to get to Heaven (but, for others who have been taught a different way, then that’s OK, and that’s the path they should follow)”.
